Police to recap Ayla investigation

WATERVILLE — There are no new developments in the case of missing toddler Ayla Reynolds, but police will hold a press conference next week to provide a recap of the investigation, according to a press release from Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

The 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, press conference will be held downtown, just days before the one-year anniversary of Ayla’s disappearance. The investigation has become one of Maine’s largest, the release states.

Ayla was reported missing on Dec. 17 by her father, Justin DiPietro. No one has been named as a suspect or a person of interest. DiPietro contends that Ayla was abducted. Investigators say a kidnapping did not happen and they believe the three adults who saw her last — her father, aunt Elisha DiPietro and Courtney Roberts — are withholding information in the case.

Investigators also believe Ayla is likely dead. State police are asking that anyone with information call them at 624-7076.
