The Associated Press

MECHANIC FALLS — A 90-minute standoff with a 21-year-old man in Mechanic Falls has ended with no one seriously hurt.

Police say they used a stun gun to subdue the suspect just after midnight this morning.

Chief Jeff Goss tells the Sun Journal the man was armed and threatened to kill his girlfriend at his home before he as subdued by officers when he came outside.

His name was not immediately made public.

The standoff started at about 10:30 p.m. when someone called police and hung up.

Family members met officers when they arrived at the scene and said the man was inside, armed and drunk.

The man was taken to a hospital for a psychological evaluation. Goss says he expects charges to be filed after the evaluation.
