BANGOR, Maine — Police say the person found dead in a Bangor supermarket parking lot over the weekend appears to have been struck by a vehicle elsewhere in the city and dragged.

Officers found the victim near the entrance to a Hannaford store at about 8 p.m. Saturday.

The person’s name has not been made public.

Police said Sunday that it appears the victim was struck on Vermont Avenue about a half mile away, became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged.

Detective David Bushey tells WABI-TV the driver was unaware that someone was trapped under the car until they reached Hannaford.

The death remains under investigation but no charges are expected.
