Portland Ballet announced details of its upcoming season this morning. The season begins with Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” on Oct. 15, and runs through April.

“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” reprises the original choreography of resident choreographer Nell Shipman and commissioned music by Kirt Mosier. Portland Ballet premiered this piece in its 2010 season. An orchestra, conducted by Robert Lehmann, will accompany the performances at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center.

The Ballet presents its annual “Victorian Nutcracker” Dec. 23 at Merrill Auditorium. The spring performance is “Giselle,” a story of love, betrayal, madness, revenge, and forgiveness. The dancers will present three performances of “Giselle” in Westbrook and one performance in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.
