PORTLAND — The  City Council on Monday night selected the acting city clerk, Katherine Jones, to replace Linda Cohen.

Cohen left the post earlier this year to pursue other professional opportunities.

Jones joined the City Clerk’s Office two years ago as election administrator. Prior to joining the city, Jones served as deputy city clerk for the city of Westbrook.

During her tenure with Portland, Jones oversaw the administration of the city’s elections and managed the licensing of businesses and maintenance of vital records. One of her first duties will be to organize the city’s upcoming mayoral election.
