PORTLAND — Portland police have released a sketch of a man being sought in connection with an attack in the city’s West End last month.

Police say a man ran up to a woman on Vaughn Street near the Western Cemetery at 10 p.m. on Nov. 17, knocked her to the ground and assaulted her.

The woman described her attacker as a black man, age 23, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, weighing 170 to 180 pounds, and wearing a dark knit watch cap, dark jacket and jeans, police said.

The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening and was released.

Police ask that anyone with information about the case call 874-8533.

Lt. Scott Pelletier, head of detectives for the department, said it appears to be an isolated incident and that there has not been an increase in suspicious activity in the city’s West End.

Police encourage people to walk with another person at night, to vary their routine and to keep to well-lit areas when possible.
