To stay true to the earlier photo, officers wore gloves and their day uniforms rather than dress blues.

Department historian Lt. Robert Doherty organized the photo to recreate one taken on the City Hall steps in 1933, one in which his great-grandfather appeared.

Lt. Bob Ridge's grandfather also appeared in the 1933 photo.

Chief Michael Sauschuck addressed the roughly 142 officers, telling them of the importance to remember the heritage of the department and its mission.

The recreation attempted to be as accurate as the 1933 photo with officers wearing gloves and their day uniforms instead of their dress blues.
