PORTLAND — A group of Maine administrators, students and parents are preparing to consider changes to the graduation requirements for Portland public high school students.
Portland Public Schools is setting up a task force that will consider drafting new graduation policy to align with a state law passed last year.
Under the law, students graduating from a Maine high school after 2018 must show proficiency in eight content areas, like career and education development, mathematics and visual and performing arts.
School officials say the task force will examine whether internships, community service and other topics should be included in the district’s graduation policy.
The group plans to present their recommendations to the Portland Board of Public Education by May 1.
