Portland Water District crews have located the source of a water main break on Bolton Street that had sent water onto nearby Congress Street on Monday morning.

The leak was first reported around 9:30 a.m., and it took crews several hours to identify the source as a 6-inch main line on Bolton Street. Repairs are expected to be complete around 7 p.m., said Michelle Clements, a spokeswoman for Portland Water District.

Bolton Street is closed to traffic at the intersection of Congress Street until the repairs are complete. All lanes of Congress Street are now open, after crews earlier shut down one lane of Congress Street eastbound heading toward downtown as they searched for the source.

“About 25 district customers are without water,” Clements said. “Access to Bolton Street is being detoured.”
