BATH — A former Maine Superior Court judge has been hired to investigate the disputed sale of city-owned property in Bath.
The city sold the former Bath Memorial Hospital building in May for $799,000. The council on April 17 unanimously approved the deal. The building is assessed at $6.5 million.
Critics say the city failed to inform the public about the deal and the city could have sold the property for more if it had put it on the market.
The Times Record reports that retired Justice Robert Crowley will conduct the study of the sale at a cost not to exceed $7,500.
Crowley said he would serve as investigator on condition that he is authorized to determine how the investigation is conducted, and would follow the evidence where it leads.
