Ron Paul to speak at Colby Friday

WATERVILLE — Ron Paul, Republican Party presidential contender, is scheduled to speak Friday at Colby College.

Paul, a congressman from Texas, is slated to talk at 3 p.m. in Ostrove Auditorium in the Diamond Building, said Ruth Jacobs, Colby’s associate director of communications.


The speech is open to the public, said Jacobs, adding Ostrove Auditorium holds about 300 people.


Paul, 76, is known for advocating for limited constitutional government, low taxes, and free markets.


He has twice previously campaigned for president; in 1988 he was the nominee of the Libertarian Party, and in 2008 he was a candidate for the Republican nomination.


Born and reared in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Gettysburg College and Duke University School of Medicine then served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force.


Paul, according to his campaign website, specialized in obstetrics/gynecology and delivered more than 4,000 babies.


Paul and his wife, Carol, have five children and 18 grandchildren.
