PORTLAND — Offense continues to be a problem for the Portland Sea Dogs, who lost their eighth straight baseball game Friday night, 4-3 to Reading.

Peter Hissey’s third home run of the season tied the score at 2 in the home sixth before Reading scored twice in the seventh. Travis Shaw added a two-out homer in the ninth to pull the Sea Dogs within one.

Anthony Ranaudo (8-3) struck out four, walked three and gave up nine hits in 6.1 innings in his first start in two weeks, having participated in the Eastern League All-Star Game and the Futures Games.

Rehabbing Red Sox shortstop Stephen Drew went 1-for-3 in five innings before leaving the game, bound for Fenway Park. He is expected to be activated in time for Saturday’s game against the Yankees.

Kelly Dugan had three hits for Reading, and Zach Collier provided a tie-breaking home run in the seventh.

The Sea Dogs collected seven hits, including a double by Michael Almanzar, who later stole third and scored on an infield out.

During their eight-game slide, the Sea Dogs have scratched out 11 runs and have been shut out four times.
