KENNEBUNK — Two defendants in the Maine Zumba prostitution case, Mark Strong and Alexis Wright, are asking for separate trials.
The Portsmouth Herald says the two filed motions on Friday.
Daniel Lilley, Strong’s attorney, and Sarah Churchill, representing Wright, said in their separate motions they were responding to an Oct. 9 notice filed by York County Deputy District Attorney Justina McGettigan saying the state intended to try both at the same time.
Lilley says Strong’s case should be divided from Wright’s because she’s facing felony charges while Strong has been charged with only misdemeanors.
Strong of Thomaston faces 59 charges ranging from promotion of prostitution to violation of privacy. Wright of Wells is facing 106 charges, including tax evasion, prostitution and violation of privacy.
Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
