The Portland area and York County got most of the snow from a storm that started Saturday morning and ended early Sunday afternoon.
Portland received 5.4 inches of snow, Gray 3.7 inches, Wells 6 inches and Sanford 7 inches, according to Margaret Curtis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray.
“New Hampshire, York County and Portland got all the snow with everyone else seeing snowflakes,” Curtis said.
Curtis said an arctic cold front will move into the state from Canada on Monday night.
“The temperatures will drop off pretty quickly,” she said.
Mainers will wake up Tuesday to temperatures hovering around 15 degrees. And she said it won’t begin to warm up until Friday.
The snow did not appear to have caused serious vehicle accidents Sunday morning, although there were accidents on Route 131 in Warren and Interstate 95 in Orono, according to police reports.
The Maine Department of Transportation lowered the speed limit on portions of I-295 in South Portland to 45 mph due to the snowy conditions.
