Standish man dies in accident

A 32-year-old man was killed in a motor vehicle accident Saturday on River Road in Standish.
Robert S. Libby, 32, of Standish was driving a 1999 Mercury Sedan when he went off the road at the 600 block of River Road and struck several trees.
Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 10:13 p.m. Saturday and found Libby laying in a field about 25 yards from where his vehicle had stopped. Libby, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life threatening injuries.
Standish Fire/EMS personnel treated Libby at the scene and transported him to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the accident. Sgt. Jim Estabrook said it appears that speed and alcohol contributed to the accident. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
Initial reports indicated that there were no occupants in the vehicle.
This is the second fatal accident in Standish in the past week. A two-car crash on March 14 that killed a Windham woman was the result of drinking and speeding, and some of the people involved weren’t using seat belts. D'Ann Seidell Bochese, 45, was found in a tree 40 feet above her car after that collision early Sunday on Oak Hill Road. Four other people were taken to Maine Medical Center after the cars crashed and tumbled across a field.
