MACHIASPORT — Maine State Police issued a warning to the public Sunday about a man they consider armed and dangerous after he allegedly stole a handgun and vehicle from a Machiasport couple.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Jason Trickett, 42, is believed to have stolen a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee along with a loaded handgun and several hundred dollars from the couple after spending Saturday night at their home on Route 191.

The couple notified authorities Sunday morning that Trickett had disappeared with their vehicle and personal property. State police believe that Trickett, a transient, may be headed to Bangor to buy drugs based on his history of drug use.

Trickett was found not guilty in September of manslaughter in the stabbing death of a Bangor man in 2012. Because of his drug history and the stolen gun, state police consider him to be armed and dangerous, McCausland said.

Trickett is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is being urged to contact state police in Orono at 866-2211.
