SOUTH PORTLAND — It's officially the champion of breakfast: The Good Table Restaurant in Cape Elizabeth overwhelmingly won the Incredible Breakfast Cook-off this morning with its creme brulee French toast.

Eleven Maine restaurants took part in the competition, which was a fundraiser for the Preble Street Resource Center. Three hundred breakfast fans descended upon the Sea Dog Brewing Co. at 7 a.m. to sample the restaurants' best breakfast dishes and vote for their favorites.
Lisa Kostopoulos, owner of The Good Table on Ocean House Road, said she was "ecstatic" to win.
"Not only was (the contest) great to raise money, we had a blast," she said. "Working with all these fellow restaurants, that was the best of it."
Among the restaurants participating were Bayou Kitchen, Becky's Diner and the Porthole from Portland; Sea Dog Brewing from South Portland; Congdon's Doughnuts Family Restaurant and the Maine Diner from Wells; Moody's Diner from Waldoboro; and Dysart's from Bangor.
Linda Foster of Portland loved the creme brulee French toast but decided to cast her vote for the homemade corned beef hash from the Miss Portland Diner, which she said was "fabulous."
"Oh, and you know what? The crab benedict was good, too," Foster said, referring to the dish made by the Seaglass Restaurant at Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth.
The breakfast event, along with the Bartenders Bash held at the Portland Museum of Art on Monday, was a signature event of Maine Restaurant Week, which runs through March 10. Together, the two events raise more than $3,500 for the Preble Street Resource Center.
