Old Orchard Beach residents elected three town councilors Tuesday in the first election since a divisive recall vote in June.

Former Councilor Michael Tousignant was elected to a one-year term on the panel with 707 votes. He defeated challengers Richard Greenlee and Ryan Kelly, who both lost in the June election. Kelly had 603 votes and Greenlee got 258 votes.

Council Chairman Shawn O’Neill and Councilor Kenneth Blow were re-elected to three-year terms.

O’Neill received 1,131 votes and Blow got 896 votes. They edged out former Councilor John Bird, who received 459 votes and Mark Koenigs, a Planning Board member, who got 369 votes.

Six of the seven town councilors were removed from office in June after a dispute over a former town manager divided the council and fueled a tense recall election. Since then, the tone of Town Council meetings has been strikingly different. The candidates in Tuesday’s election said they want to continue on that path of civil discourse and cooperation.

Voters also approved a town charter amendment that would reduce the size of the council from seven members to five. Residents voted 860-732 to make the change.

The town council expanded from five to seven members in 2012.

There are about 7,052 registered voters in Old Orchard Beach.
