PORTLAND — Southern Maine towns and cities are ordering on-street parking bans Wednesday night to allow crews to clear snow from roads.
RSU 14 in Windham also announced that it will close its middle and high schools early at 11:30 a.m., although the elementary school will close at its normal time of 12:30 p.m.
Portland's parking ban will begin at 10 p.m. and run until 6 a.m. Thursday. Old Orchard Beach's ban will also begin at 10 p.m., but will last until 6 p.m. Thursday. Lewiston's ban will be from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday and Auburn will have a ban from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Biddeford is banning on-street parking from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday.
Forecasters expect up to six inches of snow across southern Maine today, tapering off late this afternoon or early evening.
