Update
BANGOR — The group of Maine residents who gather at Bangor International Airport to greet soldiers say they've reached a milestone.
The Maine Troop Greeters met the 1 millionth service member to pass through the airport since the volunteers started counting in 2003 just before 1 a.m. today.
The Bangor Daily News says the flight with the 1 millionth arrival carried soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division from Fort Carson, Colo. on their way overseas.
The Maine Troop Greeters come to the airport day and night to provide warm welcomes to Bangor for soldiers returning from overseas or those heading out.
Many aircraft stop in Bangor as part of their intercontinental flights.
