BREWER — Police say a 74-year-old man walking across a Brewer street on his way to church was struck and seriously injured by a tractor-trailer.

The victim was crossing South Main Street on his way to St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by the truck.

The truck stopped at the scene.

The victim was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with serious injuries.

Neither his name nor the trucker’s name was immediately made public.

The crash remains under investigation but police say preliminary indications are that speed and alcohol were not factors.
