TULSA, Okla. — A city councilor in Tulsa wants to ban saggy pants.

City Councilor Jack Henderson said Thursday he will propose an ordinance amendment that would target individuals wearing saggy pants.

The Tulsa World reports that Henderson has been considering the idea for three years. He says he kept putting it off but that it has become an issue all over Tulsa. Henderson says “it’s an embarrassment.”

Police would be the pants police. Henderson says that in the normal course of their jobs, if they happen to see somebody, they can give them a ticket.

Senior Assistant City Attorney Mark Swiney says that in general it’s difficult to limit what a person is allowed to wear or not wear. The only ordinance that touches on clothing deals with outraging public decency.
