WEST BATH — The cause of a fire that destroyed a two-car garage and a motor vehicle at 29 Moose Trail Drive in West Bath tonight remains under investigation.
Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Beane said flames were shooting through the roof of the garage when firefighters arrived shortly before 6 p.m.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the property owner’s home, which is located about 20 feet away. Heat from the fire melted some of the home’s siding, but the one-story ranch-style home remains habitable.
Fire engines did not have far to travel. Moose Trail Drive is located about 2,000 feet behind the West Bath Fire Station on State Road.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
