FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington received a National Science Foundation grant to study the impact of environmental and land use changes on ecosystems and the economy of the Rangeley Lakes region of western Maine.

University officials say faculty members and students will use the $66,000 award to collect and analyze data this spring and summer to better understand the impact of climate change, invasive species and land use patterns on lake habitats, forest ecology and the area’s nature-based tourism economy.

The college will work in partnership with the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust on the project.
