BALTIMORE, Md. — The University of Maine football team was selected to finish eighth in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) poll.

The poll, voted on by coaches and sports information personnel, was released Wednesday morning at the CAA Media Day in Baltimore, Md.

Villanova was named to the top spot and received 11 first-place votes. Towson was second with New Hampshire third. Maine returns 17 starters and 29 lettermen to a team that won three of its last four and completed the season at 5-6 and 4-4 in the conference.

Senior tight end Justin Perillo (6-foot-4, 271 pounds) was named to the preseason All-CAA first team. He had 30 catches for 271 yards and five touchdowns last season and was named to the All-CAA first team.
