BANGOR — The University of Maine System Board of Trustees has granted tenure to 25 faculty members in the university system.
At its meeting Monday in Augusta, the board granted tenure to faculty from six of the seven universities, effective Sept. 1.
Trustees also adopted a new policy to standardize background screening policies and practices, which previously varied among campuses. The background screenings will include reference checks, employment and educational verification, license verification, motor vehicle license checks and criminal history.
They also approved the establishment of two assistant professorships at UMaine in Orono and spending an additional $1 million for a project at UMaine's Memorial Gym and Fieldhouse Complex.
