MILLINOCKET — After six months, seven U.S. military veterans have completed their hike of the Appalachian Trail.
The 2,185-mile Warrior Hike, called “Walk Off The War,” gives veterans a chance to process their wartime experiences with others who have been through the same thing. It is designed to help them transition from military to civilian life.
Warrior Hike was founded by Marine Corps Capt. Sean Gobin while deployed to Afghanistan. In 2012, Gobin hiked the trail that runs from Georgia to Maine to support wounded veterans.
The veterans reached the end of the trail Friday.
On Saturday, the seven veterans will trek to the summit of Mount Katahdin for the Trail’s End Festival. Then they’ll gather at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 80 in Millinocket for a barbecue.
