From staff reports
PORTLAND — The Exit 8 northbound ramp off I-295 in Portland closed most of Tuesday due to a washout, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

This morning's thunderstorm caused flooding where two culverts were to be joined, closing the I-295 Washington Avenue exit for northbound travelers.

Officials blamed the washout on Tuesday morning's heavy rains. Infrastructure work alongside the entrance ramp leading from Washington Avenue to the interstate also contributed to the problem, officials said.
The closure affects motorists traveling west from the highway toward outer Washington Avenue. Motorists traveling southbound can still exit onto Washington Avenue.
The Maine Department of Transportation re-opened the exit at 5 p.m.
