WEST PARIS — It took 50 firefighters about seven hours to extinguish a major fire at a warehouse behind a West Paris fireworks store.

The blaze was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and was extinguished by 8:30 a.m., according to the Sun Journal.
The fireworks store was damaged, but firefighters got water on the back of the store before it could become a major problem, according to the newspaper.
The fire was in the old Penley Mill building, about 100 feet from the fireworks store. According to municipal assessing records, the two-and-a-half-story former mill was valued at $168,400. The owners have some insurance on the building, which was destroyed, the Sun Journal reported.
Paris Fire Chief Brad Frost says firefighters from five communities responded and were warned to be careful of explosives in the building.
Fireworks retailer AAH Fireworks opened a store at the site last June.
The state Fire Marshal's Office will investigate.
