Woman held without bail after girl, 7, is killed by SUV

Boston police say Olivia Mora, 36, was driving the vehicle that struck a girl and her mother.

The Associated Press

BOSTON — A woman has been ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty to charges of being drunk and striking and killing a 7-year-old Boston girl.

Police say the 36-year-old Olivia Mora’s SUV was speeding down a Boston street at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, struck a parked vehicle and jumped the curb before striking Brianna Rosales and her mother while they walked along the sidewalk on their way home from school. The girl’s mother was severely hurt.

The girl was rushed to Boston Medical Center, but died a short time later.

Mora’s lawyer said in court that she has “medical issues.”

Police said they detected the odor of alcohol when speaking to Mora and that she allegedly failed a series of field sobriety tests. Mora allegedly stated that her tires were bad and that she lost control of the vehicle, according to police.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said the evidence will show Mora was driving impaired and that the accident was “100 percent avoidable.”

Police said Mora is believed to be living in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, but was carrying a California driver’s license.
