AUGUSTA — Independent Steve Woods of Yarmouth, Maine, has submitted his ballot petitions to appear on the November ballot for the U.S. Senate.

The business executive and chairman of the Yarmouth Town Council submitted his petitions this week to the secretary of state’s office. Woods, who’s president and CEO of TideSmart Global, describes himself as the only “genuine independent candidate” in the Senate race.

Only one other independent Senate candidate has filed petitions: Danny Dalton from Brunswick.

Other independent Senate hopefuls including tea party activist Andrew Ian Dodge and former Gov. Angus King face a June 1 deadline for filing at least 4,000 qualified signatures.
