A York woman was charged with drunk driving after she lost control of a Volvo at 1:48 a.m. Monday on Long Beach Avenue in York.

The car was headed north, crossed the center line, hit a sign for the Lobster Cove restaurant, rolled down an embankment and landed on its roof on a frozen pond, police said.

The pond’s ice did not break and rescuers were able to get to Mary Barnstead, 21, and take her to the hospital for treatment.

When she was released, police arrested her and charged her with operating under the influence of alcohol.
