Close to 1,000 people of all ages ran, slithered and splashed Sunday in the 2.5-mile Into the Mud Challenge at Gorham Middle School. The race, in its third year, is essentially a giant obstacle course.
Organized by students in the University of Southern Maine School of Business, the event raises thousands of dollars for the school’s Sports Management Scholarship Fund.

The town of Gorham also helps out, volunteering with the crowds, helping to build the obstacle course and directing traffic.Â
