The victim of an assault who was in intensive care after hitting his head on pavement Saturday night in Kennebunk has been released from the hospital.

Andrew Lavalle, 24, of Kennebunk was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland in serious condition after he was assaulted, police said.

A man punched Lavalle once, police said, and Lavalle fell and hit his head on the pavement.

Lavalle and two women met the man that night at Lavalle’s house, and the group went to Federal Jack’s Restaurant and Brew Pub.

The man, whom they knew only as Brandon, left the bar.

Later, when Lavalle and the women left, they encountered the man in the parking lot, said police Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee.

Burpee could not say what prompted the attack. “Witnesses we talked to inside the bar said there had been no heated incidents or arguments,” he said.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and working with New Hampshire police as they try identify the attacker, Burpee said.

Police said the attack apparently was unprovoked.

The suspect is described as in his mid-20s, close to 6 feet tall, 160 to 180 pounds with dark hair and a scruffy beard.

Police ask that anyone with information call Detective Dave Jamieson at 604-1319.
