The death of an infant girl from Clinton who died after staying with a baby sitter is under investigation as a homicide, police say.
Three-month-old Brooklyn Foss-Greenaway died July 8 after her parents made arrangements for the child to stay overnight with a baby sitter in Fairfield.
Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday that police are now investigating the death as a homicide and are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
In Maine, the death of any child 3 or younger triggers an investigation. The homicide investigation is the result of that preliminary investigation. No charges have been filed.
On the night of July 7, the child’s parents, Nicole and Tim Greenaway of Clinton, had arranged for the baby to spend the night with Amanda Huard.
At 1:34 a.m., Huard said in an emergency call from her home that the baby wasn’t breathing and was unresponsive.
Units arrived at the home six minutes later, and the infant was pronounced dead at MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer campus later that morning.
Autopsy results have not been released.
