Biddeford police used surveillance video from several businesses after the latest downtown robbery Thursday afternoon to locate the man they believe responsible for the string of holdups over the past two weeks.
Police surrounded a house at 12 King St. and tried to negotiate with the suspect, Tyler Trottier, 27.
The Maine State Police tactical team entered a second-floor apartment and found Trottier dead of apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
Police also found a gun believed to have been used in the robberies.
Police said that they used surveillance video after the robbery at May Mee restaurant on Main Street at 3:30 p.m. Thursday to trace the suspect’s movements.
Video showed a man running toward Center Street and, moments later, a pickup truck leaving the area. The truck had distinctive items in the back.
Police searched the city and found a truck matching the description. They traced the registration to Trottier.
