CAMDEN — Hundreds of teams are racing their toboggans at the annual U.S. National Toboggan Championships, a zany competition in Camden that's more about fun than winning.

The races got under way Saturday, with two-, three- and four-person teams racing their toboggans down a 400-foot toboggan chute onto a frozen pond. The races wrap up today, followed by an awards ceremony.
The races, in their 22nd year, draw participants from around the country.
The competition is held to raise money for the Camden Snow Bowl, a nonprofit, municipally owned ski area on 1,300-foot Ragged Mountain. The toboggan chute dates to the 1930s and has been rebuilt twice, most recently in 1990.
