Local man to face charges after leading police on chase

A Minot man faces charges after allegedly burning down his home and a mobile home belonging to his estranged wife, then leading police on car chases reaching high speeds.

Michael Callahan, 44, was charged with violation of bail conditions and eluding an officer, but more charges are expected, the Sun Journal newspaper in Lewiston reported.

Last December, Callahan held police at bay during a six-hour standoff during which dozens of shots were fired.

In Friday’s case, police said Callahan led a sheriff’s deputy on a chase in Minot into Mechanic Falls, and at one point Callahan pulled over and tried to run down a deputy.

Two people arrested after report of shots being fired

Two people were arrested Saturday after one of them allegedly fired a shot from a rifle during a domestic dispute, then ran off into the woods on Canaan Road. No one was injured.

Paul Clayton Vigue, 28, of Hartland was arrested without further incident, according to Dale Lancaster, chief deputy for the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department. Vigue was charged with reckless conduct.

Also charged was Aimee E. Lasco, 27, of Hartland. She was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a previous charge.

Vigue remained at the Somerset County Jail on Saturday afternoon on $200 bail. Lasco was released on bail, according to a jail intake worker.

Lancaster said police were called to 587 Canaan Road, also known as state Route 23, at 2:50 a.m. after a report of shots fired.
