Dog survives after being dragged by truck

Morning Sentinel staff reports

WATERVILLE – A dog whose owner accidentally dragged it behind his truck for about a mile Sunday will recover from its injuries, officials said.

David Bolduc said that after walking Sophie, a Bichon Frise outside his home, he slipped the leash over the tow hitch of his vehicle while he did a couple of tasks in his garage.

A short time later, when he got in his truck to leave, "I just forgot about it," a distraught Bolduc said Tuesday.

According to a report filed by Animal Control Officer Chris Martinez, the dog was dragged for nearly a mile before the leash came off the tow hitch.

The dog suffered injuries including the total loss of patches of skin and wounds to its paws.

Sophie was admitted to Kennebec Veterinary Services in Oakland. She remained in a veterinarian's care until Tuesday, Bolduc said, and was responding positively to antibiotics.
