Portland museum gets special delivery: donated sculpture

The Portland Museum of Art shut down part of High Street on Monday morning to accommodate a large boom truck that helped maneuver a modern sculpture, estimated at 1,500 pounds, into place in the museum’s outdoor sculpture garden.

It has been at the Concord, Mass., home of Guido Goldman for many years. He donated it to the museum in honor of his longtime friend and museum trustee Leonard Nelson and his wife, Merle, of Falmouth.

Nelson was at the museum for the installation. “I thought it was incredibly generous of him to give it to the museum and give it in honor of Merle and me,” Nelson said.

“Moment” joins the Celeste Roberge stone piece “Raising Cairn” in the sculpture garden. “It’s an exciting time. It opens up so many possibilities for us,” said the museum’s Jessica May.
