PORTLAND – A 65-foot fishing vessel that encountered mechanical problems off the New Hampshire coast was safely towed to its home port in Portland on Saturday.
A Coast Guard cutter based in Boston assisted the 65-foot vessel Titan from where it called for help 72 nautical miles east of Portsmouth, N.H., on Friday.
The Titan had reported hydraulic problems and could not anchor.
The captain feared the boat would drift toward rocks.
The cutter Escanaba began to tow the Titan back to Portland, and Saturday the vessel was safely transferred to a commercial towing company for further transit to Portland Harbor.
