Hundreds of job seekers attended a career fair Tuesday that offered tips on resume writing, interviewing and networking.

Presented by The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram and Monster.com, the event at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland also gave participants a chance to meet members of Maine’s business community.

Nearly 35 businesses sponsored the event, including Bath Iron Works, L.L. Bean, the Army National Guard and Spurwink Services.

An estimated 800 people attended the fair, which offered panel discussions and workshops presented by the Portland Career Center.

Vicki Worcester, a media consultant for the Press Herald/Telegram, said people came dressed to impress.

“They were prepared,” she said. “We had a good mix of people seeking professional to mid-level positions. It was a real successful event.”
