Three apprehended after robbery with gun reported

Three people were arrested Saturday after a report of a robbery at a home on Northern Avenue just after 5 p.m.

Augusta Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw said the victim reported being threatened with a gun by people demanding cash. “They left, I believe, without any money,” Shaw said Sunday.

He said police stopped the suspect vehicle within 10 minutes of receiving the robbery report.

Heather M. Young, 26, of Augusta, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and violating condition of release. The charges indicated the weapon used was a gun. Shaw said police located a pistol when they searched the vehicle.

Harrison E. Dutil-Taylor, 19, was arrested on a charge of operating while license suspended or revoked, and Paul G. Fazzi, 21, was arrested on a warrant for unlawful possession of a scheduled drug. Both are from Augusta.

All three remained in the Kennebec County jail Sunday.

Police seek suspect in theft of pills at CVS pharmacy

Police are investigating a robbery of a CVS Pharmacy in Augusta.

Augusta police said a white man age 25 to 30 wearing a hooded sweat shirt, dark face paint and sunglasses made off with oxycodone pills after threatening an employee at the pharmacy counter around 11 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect fled the store to a nearby parking lot, where police said it appears he got into a vehicle and drove off.

Police said no weapon was displayed and nobody was injured.

The same pharmacy was robbed in May.

New website is touting Maine as sports destination

The Maine Sports Commission has launched a new website to showcase and market the state as a premier sports destination.

The site, www.mainesportscommission.com, offers information, tools and interactive resources for planners and visitors to use in planning sporting events and sports-related meetings in Maine. The site also provides a listing of more than 100 athletic venues in the state, a photo gallery, a calendar of upcoming events, and links to the commission’s social media outlets.

The commission was formed earlier this year with the goal of attracting national and regional sporting events to Maine.

Man shoots himself in foot after hunting outing Saturday

A central Maine man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the foot after hunting.

The Maine Warden Service said in a news release that 37-year-old Andrew Knight of Rome was returning from the woods to meet with family members after a hunting outing Saturday when he rested his 12-gauge shotgun on his left foot. Knight told officials that the gun, a Remington pump-action, 12-gauge shotgun, then discharged, firing buckshot into his foot.

Authorities said Knight was taken by ambulance to Inland Hospital in Watervillle, where he was reported in stable condition.

Motorcycle-pickup crash kills New Hampshire man

Police are investigating a motorcycle crash in Maine that killed a New Hampshire man.

Kittery police said 53-year-old Christopher Flayhan of Somersworth, N.H., was killed when his Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Brave Boat Harbor Road about 11:25 a.m. Saturday. Officials said the pickup was driven by 60-year-old Tim Pickett of Eliot.

The accident remains under investigation.

Conservation stickers to be sold to support heron survey

The Heron Observation Network of Maine says the sale of conservation stickers is going to help pay for a statewide aerial survey of nesting great blue herons.

The network is partnering with Burly Bird, a Maine-based conservation sticker company, to make available for purchase UV-coated vinyl stickers featuring a great blue heron that can be placed on cars, windows, water bottles, coffee mugs, laptops and anywhere else.

The Heron Observation Network of Maine is a volunteer adopt-a-colony program started by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in 2009.

Proceeds from the sticker will go toward funding the next aerial survey scheduled for 2015, which will help find new heron colonies in the state.

Man, 34, charged with arson in Veranda Street house fire

A 34-year-old transient charged with arson in a Portland house fire is being held on $250,000 bail.

Police said Joshua Welch is accused of setting fire to a Veranda Street home Saturday afternoon. The house sustained minor damage. Nobody was injured.

The Portland police and fire departments are investigating.

Ski resort offers lift tickets at discount in online service

Sunday River ski resort has launched an online service selling lift tickets at discounted rates.

The Newry resort said tickets can be purchased on its website at savings of 10 percent to 35 percent for skiers who buy tickets at least 24 hours in advance. The savings are based on a tiered pricing structure with a set quantity of lift tickets per tier.

Skiers who pre-purchase tickets online can pick up their tickets at the resort.
