The award, named for Avesta Housing’s late board chairman, recognizes individuals or organizations for their work in the field of affordable housing.

The ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Park Street School Apartments, 14 Park St., Kennebunk.

Avesta created 30 affordable apartments for seniors in the former elementary school. The building and several apartments will be open for tours. Lunch will be served.

The ceremony will include remarks by local officials, a building resident, Peter Merrill of MaineHousing, State Historian Earle Shettleworth and Virginia Manuel, Maine state director of USDA Rural Development.

The Park Street School is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Colonial-Revival style building, constructed in 1921, was used as a school until 2005.
