WATERVILLE — The expanded Colby College Museum of Art won’t open until July, but museum director Sharon Corwin offered a press preview Monday afternoon.
The Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion is mostly completed. Just a few construction details remain, and Corwin and her staff have begun installing art works.

The pavilion will house the recently donated Lunder Collection, valued at more than $100 million. The collection includes more than 500 objects, most by American masters such as George Inness, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keeffe. The new wing will open July 14.
Longtime museum supporters Peter and Paula Lunder donated their private collection to the college.
When the Lunder Pavilion opens, the Colby museum will be Maine’s largest, with 38,000 square feet of gallery space.
“It’s a gift to the state of Maine,” Corwin said.
