PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Members of the New Hampshire and Maine congressional delegations are urging U.S.. Transportation Ray LaHood to support efforts to win a federal grant to help replace the Memorial Bridge that links Portsmouth and Kittery.

In a letter dated Monday, U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine and New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and the U.S. representatives for the area wrote LaHood on Monday.
New Hampshire’s other U.S. senator, Judd Gregg, has already written a letter of support for the project.
The letter says the bridge replacement project would create 197 onsite jobs and 950 indirect jobs.
Officials in the two states are trying to decide what to do about the deteriorating 80-year-old Memorial Bridge.
Replacing it would cost an estimated $87 million.
