FALMOUTH — The Maine Turnpike Authority will conduct intermittent nighttime traffic stops near Exit 53 on Tuesday and Wednesday to ensure motorist and worker safety during bridge construction.
Stops will occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. while the authority's contractor sets new structural steel for the bridge that carries Exit 53 traffic over the turnpike.
Traffic stops will affect northbound and southbound traffic on Tuesday night and southbound traffic only on Wednesday night.
Maine State Police will stop traffic for as long as 25 minutes whenever necessary. Motorists may want to seek alternative routes.
