AUGUSTA — A Maine Republican Party firearm fundraiser this weekend has been postponed.

The Maine Republican Party planned to use firearm instruction and target practice at a gun range on Saturday as a fundraiser, pitching the “Maine GOP Firearm Training Day” and charging up to $185. The idea was to offer training for people interested in applying for a concealed weapons permit.

Barry Sturk, a licensed gun dealer and instructor, said Saturday’s event will be postponed in part because of a problem with a distributor that was supposed to supply ammunition for the event.

He said organizers plan to reschedule the event for September. He described the training as a good opportunity to educate people about guns and gun safety and to raise money for the GOP at the same time.
