Lake Winnipesaukee freezes a few days behind schedule

Even with the recent low temperatures in New Hampshire, "ice-in" at Lake Winnipesaukee is a little behind schedule.

Emerson Aviation, which has the task of deciding when the entire lake freezes over for the first time during the winter, made the determination on a Tuesday morning flight.

Conditions were helped by recent freezing temperatures over the past week. However, some melting was expected Wednesday, due to higher-than-normal temperatures.

Dave Emerson of Emerson Aviation told The Citizen that Tuesday's declaration was a few days behind schedule.

Reports show there has been only one year in the record books when the lake did not totally freeze over, in 2001.

Marine Corps veteran shot to death outside his shop

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and father of two has been gunned down in broad daylight in front of the Malden skateboard shop he owned.

Authorities said 39-year-old Shawn Clark of Saugus was shot multiple times just before 1 p.m. Tuesday in front of his Patriot Skateboards shop. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Witnesses said they saw two men running down the street just after the shooting, but the Middlesex district attorney's office did not immediately release a possible motive or announce any arrests.

Family members said Clark served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
