PORTLAND — Police are investigating an altercation in the Old Port that sent a Portland man to the hospital last weekend with serious head injuries.
Assistant Police Chief Michael Sauschuck said Garrett McAdam, 23, was injured when he fell on his head after someone punched him.
He said witnesses have given police conflicting accounts of what happened, making the investigation difficult. Sauschuck said police have talked to “subjects of interest” but no one he would classify as a suspect.
McAdam’s parents have criticized police for not making an arrest.
At a press conference Friday, Gary and Nancy McAdam told WCSH-TV that their son was punched in the head by someone who was playing “knockout,” a game in which a player surprises someone with a punch and yells, “knockout!”
The couple said the attack left their son with a fractured temple bone and a hematoma that required emergency brain surgery. The incident occurred shortly after midnight Sunday near the intersection of Fore Street and Plum Alley.
